The conference took place in Marine's Memorial Club & Hotel, 609 Sutter Street, San Francisco.
This was quite a small conference in comparison with MobileBeat. Attendees were mostly mobile and web developers with significant part of designers. Speakers were from companies with illustrious names. For example Netflix, GoPro, Oracle, Yahoo, Paypal, IBM, Coursera, Couchsurfing or Lumosity.
From Android developer’s point of view most interesting was case study about Coursera application by Richa Khandelwal. She was showing how they started with common MVC (model-view-controller) architecture and modified it to better suit android application lifecycle and platform in general. They introduced more layers which made architecture a bit more complex, but hugely improved testability and mockability. From design talks Martin A. found very interesting idea of design wall where designers were showcasing what are they currently working on and everyone walking past the wall could give them feedback. They were using just paper and pins. But in Avast we could make it for example an idea for some upcoming hackaton and build application to showcase designs on TV.
