On the third weekend of our stay we visited The Muir Woods National Monument in the north, across the Golden Gate Bridge in the Marin County. Muir Woods are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and locals call them the "big trees". The Muir Woods is an old-growth coastal forest full of redwoods. The trees are between 600 - 1000 years old and are really big :-)
Apart from this, we had a picnic on Stinson Beach which was close to the Muir Woods and enjoyed a nice sunset.
Some of us were also exploring the city during the weekend, took a hike to Twin Peaks, an amazing viewpoint of the Bay Area, enjoyed hippie area in Haight-Ashbury, went to see the Mosaic Steps, or rode a bike across the Golden Gate Bridge.
